Grammar and Logic Core Program Overview

Greenhouse Christian Co-School's Grammar and Logic level program provides a basic structure while giving you the flexibility to create the homeschool environment that works for your family. While we have a carefully crafted syllabi reflecting our Christian values and beliefs, in 1st through 8th grades you are more in the driver’s seat of your children’s education. Greenhouse’s curriculum is time-tested and works for a broad spectrum of homeschool families.

Along with a time-tested curriculum, our teachers also get home schooling. All have homeschooled or been homeschooled, or worked with homeschoolers for many years. They can be a valuable partner, giving you confidence that you are equipping your children during these foundational years.

Grammar and Logic students in the core program receive four courses

  • History & Literature

  • Art

  • Science

  • Performing Arts

Each year all of our Grammar and Logic students study the same time period, but each level focuses on different aspects and develops different intellectual skills.

The four time periods

  • Antiquities - Creation to AD 476

  • Medieval/Renaissance - 400-1650

  • Reformation/Early Modern - 1500-1815

  • Modern/Contemporary - 1800 to present

If Grammar and Logic families prepare their students to attend the classes in Art, Performing Arts, and Science, the students will receive a solid education in those areas. We recommend families supplement History and Literature with additional readings and projects. The core program does not offer math and language arts (grammar, composition, spelling).

Grammar (grades 1-4)

In the Grammar stage, capitalizing on students' incredible capacity to memorize, teachers focus on developing a mastery of the basics and fundamental rules for each subject. Students should expect 2-4 hours of homework per week. We recommend that families supplement History and Literature with additional readings and projects. The core program does not offer math and language arts.

Logic (grades 5-8)

Logic students develop critical thinking skills in order to examine relationships within and between fields of study. Students ask investigative questions related to the subject and use logic/reasoning to derive meaning and draw conclusions. Students should expect 4-8 hours of homework per week. We recommend that families supplement History and Literature with additional readings and projects. The core program does not offer math and language arts.
