Introductory Logic

This course introduces students to straw men, red herrings, and other devices that are commonly used to obscure, distract, and mislead. Using The Fallacy Detective as a primary text, students will learn to recognize and understand common fallacies. They will find and examine examples from the media and everyday conversations. While the course will focus on informal logic, it will also include a brief introduction to formal logic as well.  Instructor:  Grady Parker

Intended for students in grades 8-9, Introductory Logic is also available to 10th graders and motivated 7th graders. The class will meet once a week for 28 weeks for 75-minute classes. Students should expect to spend 30-45 minutes on homework each week. High school students will receive 1/4 credit for the course.
