Rhetoric Level (Grades 9-12)

Sometimes the typical path is not the best path. Reimagine high school.

These years of your life can be as unique as you are.

Your high school years are important and full of possibility. It's a time to start discovering and developing your unique voice and gifts. It’s a time to ask and examine big questions about what it means to be human. You can explore your faith and how your beliefs shape your life and character. You can enter into deep and meaningful friendships. You can acquire the skills of learning for yourself which will serve you all your life. You can take the next steps in becoming a leader who leads by serving others. Greenhouse desires to help you with all of that.

Become an expert learner no matter where you are headed.

God designed us to learn and grow our whole lives, so learning how to learn is a necessary skill. At Greenhouse, you will get plenty of practice alongside your classmates. Through courses in history and literature, science labs, creative projects and presentations, you will practice learning in different ways. You will also discover your natural strengths and giftings as you dive into a variety of subjects through various creative methods.

Grow as an individual, especially if you are a follower of Christ.

Who you are is ultimately more important than what you do. We believe you will become your best self only when following Jesus Christ. At Greenhouse, we recognize that life together plays a huge role in our growth in Christ. We can help each other learn to serve with hearts deeply connected to the Lord. We can encourage one another, and sharpen each other. Yes, you will learn to think at Greenhouse; but more importantly, you will learn to speak and live in ways that reflect Christ to your friends, family, and others.

Journey through some of the greatest works in history alongside classmates who become your friends.

Contribute as a vital member of your team (cohort).

While you learn to think for yourself, you will also discover the ways that others play a role in your learning and growth. Your classmates, called your “cohort” at Greenhouse, will become a safe place to explore subjects, try new skills, and grow in community with others.

In Rhetoric, you will be surrounded by others who are also choosing an unconventional high school path. Within your cohort, you will come to value each other’s strengths and support one another in areas of growth. A lively and challenging classroom will be central to this process. But beyond the classroom, you may participate in monthly social gatherings, big events during the year, and simply hang out with friends in your free time. Having a consistent small group (cohort) throughout your high school years will provide you with real friendship, help you grow in character, and enable you to live out your faith with others who understand you in a unique way.

Would you be a good fit for Greenhouse?

Greenhouse students are curious and thoughtful. They want to know themselves better, serve others meaningfully, and grow in Christ. They are not afraid to follow an unusual path. Greenhouse comes alongside you with a supportive community and tools for your journey.

Saying “Yes” to Rhetoric lets you easily say “Yes” to other things which are important to you.

What could you do with your high school life if you are not tied to a traditional daily school schedule? Many high school students spend their days in a lifeless routine as they march from activity to activity every school day. Co-schooling can free you from that march. You are on the Greenhouse campus for a small part of the week and your Rhetoric homework for history, literature and science will require about 14-20 hours each week. You can determine when that best fits into your week. During your freshman and sophomore years we even help you learn how to manage your time well. Outside of these commitments though, you have tremendous freedom to schedule the rest of your week according to your personal interests .
